MEMORY

The hippocampus is the part of the brain important for creating long-lasting memories.

Music's strong effect on memory is due to the tempos and rhythms.

When studying with background music, your mind goes along with the tempo and rhythm of the music with the text you're reading. This helps your memory and will help you better remember info when you're testing.

Mood

The amygdala is the part of the brain important for emotions.

Music, rhythm, and tone cause change in our emotions, which is why music is useful for relaxing and stress. It releases neurons in the brain which help the body relax.

To avoid getting stressed when studying, listen to some music! It'll help you stay calm and concentrate.

CREATIVITY

The right side of the brain is important for your creative thoughts. It focuses on the main idea.

When you play an instrument, you're using both sides of your brain! The right side of the brain helps you focus on the melody of a song.

You can apply this in school!

The right side of your brain works when you learn art, music, and reading.

Next time you study, remember to use your imagination to draw, write, or play games to help remember something you learned in class!

PROBLEM-SOLVING

The left side of the brain is important for problem solving. It focuses on small details.

When you play an instrument, you're using both sides of your brain! The left side of the brain helps you focus on using your motor skills (Ex: Placing your fingers on the right key to play the correct notes)

You can apply this in school!

The left side of your brain works when you learn math and science.

Next time you study, remember to take it one step at a time if you are struggling to understand something!
